This is a book that looks beyond the pass to tell the real stories of the people shaping Brisbane’s dining scene. The chefs, the places they cook, and the city that feeds their curiosity.

Independently produced by a small Australian publisher, the book documents the legacy being created in kitchens across the city right now. It is the second instalment in the Chefs Eat series, following the release and success of Chefs Eat Canberra (2024). Built slowly and deliberately, the series exists to document hospitality culture city by city, with a focus on people, place and craft rather than trends or reviews. Each edition captures a moment in time, the chefs, the restaurants and the values shaping a city’s food identity.

Brisbane is a city that has learned to grow without losing its grounding. Once underestimated, it has found its confidence through food, led by chefs who value generosity over ego, collaboration over competition, and a deep connection to place, producers and community.

Here, chefs share the stories that have shaped them, the wisdom they’ve earned, the recipes that define their craft, and the places they love to eat on their nights off. Together, they offer an honest portrait of a city told from the inside.
